“The automobiles checked out in the United Kingdom were rebuilt, but fairly terribly, so I had to look further afield,” states engineer Glyn.“When I found the 1965 TR4A advertised in Malta, I struck up a liaison with the owner and after some Fifty detailed photographs, scheduled assessments and 2 months of negotiation - we agreed a price. It has turned out to be, in the main, to be a superb purchase at a reasonable cost and all I need now is some good weather to enjoy hood-down motoring with the family. The rainiest January ever since records began hasn’t been kind."
Glyn went for Anglo Pacific to deal with the move as, firstly, its London Headquarters was helpful geographically for him, and secondly, he sensed great confidence after speaking with Terry Horsnell, Client Manager at Anglo Pacific, a man who's been in the shipping business for 3 decades.
“Handling valuable freight such as Glyn’s Triumph, a car he spent 1 year searching for, is one of the main reasons I truly enjoy my work at Anglo Pacific,” reveals Terry. “Not only do I get to oversee the safe shipping and delivery of a unique object from A to B, I also get to engage in a very small part in some fascinating reports. I really hope Glyn gets many miles, and smiles, from his amazing ‘new’ vintage automobile.”
Glyn is thankful for Terry’s dedication to the role, “Anglo Pacific proved to be a fantastic decision as Terry has been completely top notch in every respect. His attention to fine detail and excellent communication maintained belief through the entire complete shipping method. I would have no doubt in promoting Anglo Pacific in the future.”
A classic car fan for over Half a century, Glyn has owned and fully rebuilt quite a few vehicles from pre-War Rileys to T Type MGs and E Type Jaguars to Austin Healeys. His most up-to-date buy, the TR4A, is an uprated version of the first TR4 that was launched in 1961 - uprated in the sense that it has a better engine, independent rear suspension and little adjustments to the trim and chrome work.
The TR4A sold very well, with the vast majority being exported, and currently it appears there are just about Two hundred and fifty of them registered in Britain, making the TR4A much sought-after and quite hard to source in truly exceptional condition. If Glyn’s acquisition stands up well and is moderately trouble-free, he will pass the vehicle on to his son who is a great Triumph fan.
Glyn finishes, “I don't have any plans to buy any other vintage vehicles as I find them very time consuming and dear to maintain. However, that does not lessen my love of these alluring old bits of machinery and my heart still misses a beat when I see an MG TC, as it was in an MG TC, 51 years back, that my wife and I went on our honeymoon. Such terrific memories.”
